Thoroughbreds Fall Just A Few Lengths Behind  Against the Builders

The Thoroughbreds made the 200 mile trip to Newport News, Virginia to compete against the Builders of The Apprentice School. The opener and first NSAC competition for both programs for the 2022-23 season. The Thoroughbreds coming in with a young team assembled in short order, would have to play well to run with the much more experienced Builders team. The Thoroughbreds run well in the first half battling with no sign of intimidation of the talented Builders with the largest lead of five points. The leadership of point guard, Sam Benton would prove to be the key for a poised Herd good start. A total of eight times of a tied score in the first half with both teams deadlocked 32-32 at the Half.
Keyshawn Bryant and Wol Yak would lead all scorers at the break with 8 points a piece. The Thoroughbreds with 36% team shooting from the field and 37% from the arc.
The second half would change pace for the Thoroughbreds as the Builders would go on their own run 7-1 run building a lead. The Thoroughbreds would catch up and tie the game at 52-52. However, the builders responded with a 6-0 gap and eventually extended the lead to 10 points. The Thoroughbreds would not go away and would close on the lead within three points. The Thoroughbreds would lose some stride with critical turnovers a total of 20 for the game. These mistakes would eventually cost the T-breds to fall short of securing their first win of the season. Final score, 73-80. The Thoroughbreds had balanced scoring from the starters. Benton -12, Bryant -12, Barrientoz -15, and Yak to lead all scorers with 23 points. The Builders get 21 points off the bench from Adrion Wall.

The Thoroughbreds will travel to Raleigh to face St. Augustine University at Emery Gym on November 12th at 4:00 p.m.
